The PR2 is primarily a sound downloader for Digitrax's SoundFX decoders.  Digitrax plans to have a variety of sounds on their web site that you can download for your SoundFX decoder. But since these are standard wave files, you can use any other wave-type files you have. This means you can also swap and share files with your friends. In fact, Digitrax is hoping that a group will start a chat room with the purpose of helping people and sharing files. But remember, it's not ethical to use a proprietary sound file without the owner's permission.

The PR2 can program some decoders like the now-discontinued PR1. It should program most of Digitrax decoders as well as Train Control Systems and NCE, but Digitrax will not stand behind it for that purpose.

The PR2 is designed to plug straight onto a PC's DB25 serial port. If your PC has a DB9 serial port instead of a DB25, we have low-cost DB9/DB25* adapters that will work with it. If your PC doesn't have any serial port, it can be connected to the USB port with a USB/COM25** adapter.

*Keep in mind that not all DB9-to-DB25 serial port adapters will work. There are at least two different types - one works, the other doesn't. The one we carry works.

**There are several brands of USB/COM25 adapters, and not all of them will work with the PR2. The one we carry does work with it.
